The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock is part of the University of Arkansas System. UAMS has six academic units consisting of five colleges and the Graduate School. UAMS is the only comprehensive teaching facility in Arkansas for students pursuing medical and health-care degree programs.

In addition to its Graduate School, UAMS' colleges include Medicine, Pharmacy, nursing, Health Related Professions, and Public Health. The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences produces skilled specialists in virtually every field of medicine - from nurses to paramedics and from surgeons to pharmacists.

UAMS is the foundation of the health care system in Arkansas. UAMS provides clinical care to patients. Hundreds of resident physicians complete their training at UAMS or at one of the eight Area Health Education Centers throughout the state.

Outreach efforts of UAMS include eight Area Health Education Centers, networks of senior health centers and centers for young children with special health care needs, and interactive video education and medical consultation services to community hospitals around the state.
