University of Maine Farmington is part of the public state college system of Maine. The other colleges in the system are: University of Maine Orono,
University of Maine at Augusta, University of Maine at Ft. Kent, University of Maine at Machias, University of Maine at Presque Isle, the
University of Southern Maine and Maine Law School. The
University of Maine System was established in 1968 with the goal of providing accessible and affordable learning opportunities, as well as to improve the quality of life in Maine. In addition to the universities and outreach centers, the University of Maine system has 75 local ITV sites for distance learners. The University of Maine Farmington is Maine's first public institution of higher learning. Established in 1864, the college has a long history of
liberal arts education in the state.
