The University of Mary, founded in 1955 by The Benedictine Sisters of Annunciation Monastery, is located on the Lewis and Clark Trail, six miles south of Bismark, North Dakota on over 200 acres of land near the Missouri river. UM is the only private, Catholic university in North Dakota and has a nationally recognized leadership development program. Student enrollment is more than 2,800 with a student to faculty ratio of 16 to one.

Values based on the Rule of Benedict are integrated into the school's curriculum and day-to-day activities. UM currently offers more than 42 undergraduate programs, five master's degree programs, and one doctoral program. The University of Mary guarantees that first-year freshman will graduate after four years with a declared major or there is no charge for the fifth year.

The community that surrounds the University of Mary is an ever-growing community of over 70,000 people. Fishing and water sports can be found just minutes from the campus at the nearby Missouri River, as well as seven golf courses and miles of trails for walking, running, biking or rollerblading.
