The is the largest health sciences institution in the country. UMDNJ was founded in 1970 by the State Legislature as the College of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey and was granted University status in 1981.

The University is made up of eight schools on five campuses and consists of a network of more than 200 affiliated healthcare and educational partners in the entire state. UMDNJ offers more than eighteen undergraduate and over 41 graduate programs in medicine, dentistry, research, public health, nursing and other Allied Health careers. UMDNJ has more than 21,000 UMDNJ, most of whom choose to practice in New Jersey.
