Before there was the University of New Brunswick, there was the College of New Brunswick . one of Canada's oldest institutions of higher learning. Conceived of in the 1780s, the College of New Brunswick received its Provincial Charter in 1800; it wasn't until 1859 that the college was reformed into the provincial University of New Brunswick.

In the years following its establishment, the Canadian college would gradually develop into the comprehensive facility that it is today. From the establishment of one-year certificate programs and the inclusion of four-year bachelor's degree programs, to the creation of law, engineering, and forestry departments, the University of New Brunswick has grown in many ways. Now with 50 degree and certificate/diploma programs, two campuses (one in Fredericton and another in Saint John), 620 full-time faculty members, and more than 70 student clubs and organizations, this Canadian university offers a wide variety of educational opportunities and support to students.

Thanks to programs in such subjects as anthropology, the fine arts, political science, chemistry, nursing, or computer science, this Canadian college has something to suit most anyone's educational needs.
