The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, founded in 1946, is a research-intensive university, the fourth largest of the 16 institutions within the University of North Carolina system and the largest institution in the Charlotte region. UNC, located on a 1000-acre wooded campus eight miles from uptown Charlotte, has approximately 75 buildings.

UNC is comprised of seven professional colleges that include Colleges of Architecture, Arts and Sciences, business, Education, engineering, Health and Human Services, and Computing and Informatics. The University of North Carolina at Charlotte currently offers about 18 doctoral programs, 61 master's degree programs and 89 programs leading to bachelor's degrees. There are more than 900 full-time faculty and 23,000 plus students.

UNC's Belk College of business offers one of the largest business programs in the Carolinas. UNC is one of three colleges in the state to offer bachelor's, master's and a doctoral degree in business administration. The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is also the only university in the United States to provide a certificate in international public relations and a semester graduate-level international public relations study abroad program.
