Located in the heart of Ottawa, Ontario, the University of Ottawa is home to approximately 40,000 students, faculty and staff. Dating back to the 1800s, the University of Ottawa is rich in history and achievement. Founded in 1848 as the College of Bytown, the Ottawa University has seen many changes and expansions, including its growth into a university.

Originally established as a liberal arts college, the University of Ottawa now offers more than 400 programs of study to choose from, including a strong emphasis on bilingual studies. The University of Ottawa is focused on preparing students for a role in an economical world. Here, programs are offered in either English or French. At the Ontario school, students are offered both undergraduate degrees, certificate programs, graduate and post-doctoral degrees. In fact, the University of Ottawa is ranked second in Ontario for having the most doctoral programs available.

Students at the University of Ottawa are also offered to participate in the French immersion studies. The program, which is unique to Canada, is aimed to help students achieve their language goals by offering courses in French. French immersions studies can be applied to more than 50 of the Ottawa school's academic programs.

Multiple sports complexes at the University of Ottawa enable an active student body. For your enjoyment a plethora of facilities are offered, including a fitness center, squash and racquetball courts, a pool complete with a diving tower, a number of ice surfaces and multiple gymnasiums. A number of clubs are also established to help students get involved and meet their peers.

Living on-campus is another facet of college life. Nearly 3,000 students reside at the University of Ottawa. Residences are located in a convenient downtown location and are in walking distance to class, labs, libraries, cafeterias and social activities. And if you choose to live off-campus there is a friendly virtual billboard with information about renting or rooming nearby.

Hardworking college students also need nourishment; the University of Ottawa offers numerous dining options and a number of meal plans through Chartwells dining locations.
