Because of its relationships with both the University of Pennsylvania and the Penn Health System, graduate medical education students benefit from state-of-the-art facilities, with resources that include numerous outstanding instructors, modern, up-to-date facilities and a prime location in Philadelphia, one of the largest cities in the country.

The goal of University of Pennsylvania Graduate Medical Education is to engage highly qualified teachers and researchers, foster an environment that encourages innovative approaches to learning, and that helps build relationships between the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS) network. The UPHS network is an important graduate medical education resource and is made up of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine (the first medical school in the United States), the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Hospital (the oldest hospital in the country) and several suburban locations, as well as Penn specialists, primary care physicians, home care and hospice. UPHS is also home to the recently opened Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine, a more than 360,000-square-foot, completely up-to-date outpatient facility that is located next to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

University of Pennsylvania's Graduate Medical Education currently offers training in more than 50 specialties and subspecialties and is accredited by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
