The University of Puget Sound, founded in 1888, is located on a 97-acre campus of Tudor Gothic buildings and native fir groves in a residential section in the North End of Tacoma, Washington. Puget Sound is one of five independent national undergraduate
liberal arts colleges in the Northwest. Mount Rainier, which is visible from campus, and the Olympic National Park are about a two-hour drive away.
Puget Sound offers more than 40 major programs in academic departments that include art, biology,
business, chemistry, classics, communication, comparative sociology, economics,
education, English, exercise science, foreign languages and literature, geology, history, mathematics and computer science,
Music, and occupational therapy.
There are more than 2,500 undergraduate and 200 plus graduate students. The University of Puget Sound employs 219 faculty, and 98 percent of them have PhD's or terminal degrees in their field. The student to faculty ratio is 11 to one. Average class size is 18, and 90 percent of classes number less than 30 students. Puget Sound offers bachelor's degrees in art, science, and music and graduate degrees in
teaching, education and occupational therapy.
