The main campus of the University of Rhode Island, a public research university, is located in the historic village of Kingston. The University of Rhode Island has three other campuses located throughout the state. The main campus sits on 1,200-acres comprised of ivy-covered buildings and contemporary architecture. Just 30 miles south of Providence, the college is within easy reach of Newport, Boston and New York City.

There are more than 15,650 students enrolled at the University of Rhode Island, and the student to faculty ratio is 19 to one. URI offers over 100 majors in seven degree-granting colleges.

URI has the distinction of offering the first graduate degree program that merges a master's of business administration with a master's of oceanography degree, resulting in a 16-month dual degree program, dubbed the Blue MBA.

Quick Fact

  • URI was chartered as the state's Agricultural School in 1888.

  • The Oliver Watson farm was purchased as a site for the school, and the old farmhouse, now restored, still stands on the campus.

  • The Blue MBA will educate future business leaders in global climate change opportunities. Students will be required to take courses in the business and oceanography programs, as well as additional courses from the economics, natural resource economics, and marine affairs departments.
