The
University of South Carolina Beaufort, the newest four-year university in South Carolina, is comprised of the historic North Campus in the heart of downtown Beaufort and the new South Campus at the gateway to Hilton Head Island. Students have opportunities to experience the rich heritage surrounding the area including the Gullah culture, island living, wetland preserves and the many historical and cultural events.
The University of South Carolina Beaufort offers programs in mathematics and the natural sciences,
humanities, and professional and social sciences. They also have access to the University of South Carolina's Extended Graduate Campus classes and degrees and numerous continuing
education programs at its two full-service campuses.
In addition to offering baccalaureate degrees, the University of South Carolina Beaufort offers Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees to
military personnel at the Marine Corps Air Station and Parris Island Recruit Depot. USC Beaufort now offers a Bachelor of Science in
nursing program.
Enrollment is more than 1,400 students, and there are about 51 full-time and 62 part-time faculty members.

In June 2002, USC Beaufort was granted four-year status by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education, and in 2004 it was accredited as a Level II baccalaureate degree granting university.
