The Princeton Review has ranked the University of South Dakota, the state's oldest university that was founded in 1862, as one of the nation's best colleges. USD is situated on a 216 acre campus along the bluffs overlooking the Missouri River in the southeast corner of the state. The University of South Dakota has South Dakota's only accredited
