The University of Tennessee at Martin, founded in 1900, is the only public four-year institution in West Tennessee outside of Memphis. Part of the University of Tennessee system, UT Martin continues to grow. Renovation projects and capital improvement projects to the sum of $70 million are underway.

More than 7,000 students and about 500 faculty, almost half who have either a doctorate, first professional or terminal degree, are an integral part of life at the University of Tennessee at Martin. There are more than 100 different specialties in undergraduate and graduate programs. Students can choose majors in the natural and social sciences, humanities, fine and performing arts, computer science, nursing, agriculture, teacher education, business administration and engineering. Master's degrees are offered in accounting and business administration, counseling and teacher education, family and consumer sciences, and agriculture and natural resources systems management.

Non-traditional students can pursue online degrees that include the Online Bachelor of University Studies degree, as well as online Master's degrees in education, agriculture and natural resources systems management. The Office of Extended Campus & Continuing Education enables students to take distance courses in a traditional classroom format by interactive compressed video, online, and in a combination of mediums at center locations in Jackson, Parsons, Ripley and Selmer.
