The University of Tennessee Chattanooga, located only a few blocks from the urban area of downtown Chattanooga--a mixture of industry and natural beauty--is a "metropolitan university." Students have access to a number of city parks, public golf courses, and a 35,400-acre lake. Besides awarding bachelor's and master's degrees, The University of Tennessee Chattanooga has recently started offering doctorates.

There are more than 9,500 students and 400 full-time and 296 part-time faculty at UTC. There are no teaching assistants. The University of Tennessee Chattanooga offers more than 100 bachelor's and 40 master's degree programs in four colleges that include: Arts and Sciences; business; engineering and Computer Science; and Health, education and Professional Studies.

Students can add experiential learning opportunities, such as internships, clinicals, and cooperative education placement, to their schedules. These opportunities are made possible in part by UTC's community partnerships. Cooperative education combines classroom studies with paid, career-related work experience. In the past students have worked for IBM, Saturn Corporation, NASA, AT&T, Disney, and the Central Intelligence Agency.
