The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston is a comprehensive health science university composed of six schools, an institute of molecular medicine and a psychiatric center located at the Texas Medical Center and four regional campuses. Part of the University of Texas system, the campus consists of 45 buildings with about 3.7 million square feet.

More than 3,700 students are enrolled in degree and certificate programs from the Dental School, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, Medical School, School of Public Health, School of nursing, School of Health Information Sciences, Psychiatric Center and the Institute of Molecular Medicine for the Prevention of Human Diseases. Students can choose from 12 graduate, two professional, two bachelor degrees, six coordinating board-approved certificate programs, 10 joint/dual degree programs, and nearly 100 clinical training sites. There are about 1,322 faculty members at the Health Science Center.

The School of Health Information Sciences at the Health Science Center is the only graduate school of its kind in the nation to offer graduate degrees in health informatics. The school's mission is to provide educational and research opportunities in informatics to health care professionals and biomedical scientists working as interdisciplinary teams.
