University of Texas medical Branch, opened in 1891, is a modern
Health Science Center with more than 70 major buildings on an 84-acre campus. Part of the University of Texas System, UTMB includes four schools, three institutes for advanced study, a major medical library, a network of hospitals and clinics that provide a full range of primary and specialized medical care, an affiliated hospital, and numerous
research facilities.
There are more than 2,500 students, nearly 700 medical residents and fellows, and about 1,000 faculty. University of Texas Medical Branch is the first public institution in Texas to offer a doctoral
degree in Clinical Science through its
Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. The program trains researchers to effectively translate findings into viable treatments.
Expansion plans include a $61 million medical specialty care center on a 35-acre site. When completed, the 110,000-square-foot specialty center will feature advanced imaging services, pediatric and adult clinics, outpatient surgery and pediatric urgent care.
