University of Texas of the Permian Basin, part of the University of Texas System, is a four-year university offering 32 undergraduate degrees and 19 graduate programs as well as various certification programs. The UT Permian Basin campus is a growing university situated in a semi-arid grassland climate where the sun shines 300 days a year on average. A nearby park, operated by the city of Odessa, is located on the northeast corner of the campus with baseball batting cages, soccer fields, softball fields, and playground equipment.

An ever increasing student population numbers about 3,600 students. Instructed by more than 100 full-time and about 120 part-time faculty, the average class size is 24 students. Over 90 percent of tenure track faculty hold doctorates in their teaching fields. Courses can be taken through daytime and evening classes, Internet-based courses, audit, self-paced instruction, and contract courses.

Undergraduate degrees at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin include Bachelor's of Arts, business Administration, Science, Applied Arts and Sciences, Fine Art, and Social Work. Several new programs have been recently added, including a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science.

The graduate programs also have been expanded to include a Master's in Criminal Justice Administration, Public Accountancy, and Bilingual/ESL education. Four additional graduate degrees are currently available through UT Permian Basin's distance learning program. These include online courses: Master of business Administration; Master of Science in Kinesiology; the MEd online Program in Educational Technology; and the School Superintendent Certification. Pre-professional studies include Pre-Law and Pre-Health Sciences.
