The University of the Virgin Islands, founded in 1962, is comprised of two campuses. The
St. Thomas campus is located three miles west of the capital of the US. Virgin Islands. There is a library, four classroom buildings, other academic and administrative buildings, and three residence halls. The beach that borders the campus on the west is officially part of the campus. The University of the Virgin Island campus on St. Croix houses most classes in a multi-level structure with an open-air atrium. Other buildings include the
research Extension Center and an Agriculture Experiment Station.
The U.S. Virgin Islands are located approximately 1,600 miles from
New York and 1,200 miles east-southeast of Miami.
More than 2,200 students attend the University of the Virgin Islands. UVI offers 30 undergraduate
degree programs, three masters degree programs, and two unaccredited professional degree programs in
business and
education.

Recreation includes the nine-hole Herman E. Moore Golf Course, tennis courts, a recreation center, playing fields, and a field house .
