The University of Washington Tacoma, one of two branch campuses of the University of Washington in Seattle, graduates more than 850 students per year from undergraduate and graduate programs. Academic programs include business, education, environmental science, technology, interdisciplinary arts and sciences, nursing, social work and urban studies.

Located in the South Puget Sound region of Washington state, the University of Washington Tacoma is situated on 46 acres in historic downtown Tacoma. Many of the buildings are converted 19th century warehouses. In 2004, several newly renovated buildings received environmental recognition.

In 2006, the University of Washington Tacoma admitted its first freshman class, though most students are transfer students. The freshman class comprises approximately 10 percent of the student body of more than 2,600 students.

  • The faculty of the University of Washington Tacoma is made up of more than 130 full-time faculty members and more than 50 part-time faculty members. The student-to-faculty ratio is a small 14.7 to 1 with an average class size of 22. Ninety percent of faculty members hold a doctorate or terminal degree.

  • Established in 1990, the University of Washington Tacoma's enrollment has steadily increased. Currently, there are more than 2,100 undergraduates and more than 480 graduate students.

  • The University of Washington Tacoma has more than 25 registered student organizations, plus two student publications and the student government.

  • The University of Washington Tacoma will start offering student housing in a limited number of on-campus apartments in fall 2008.
