The Napa Valley Hospitality Institute is a school that further trains people entering the hospitality or wine industry. The Napa Valley Hospitality Institute is a division of
Napa Valley College, which is accredited by the Western Association of Colleges and Schools. However, students at the Napa Valley Hospitality Institute receive no college credit for the courses at the school; as the program is designed to be hands on. The program at the Napa Valley Hospitality Institute is designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in fine restaurants, the wine industry or with caterers or others in the hospitality industry.
The Napa Valley Hospitality Institute offers training through a number of workshops, which include: Thrive and Survive; Customer Service
Academy and others. The one-day Thrive and Survive workshop seeks to fill a skill gap by workers in the hospitality industry by teaching the importance of work ethic; attitude; appearance and communication. The Customer Service Academy at the Napa Valley Hospitality Institute is a 4-12 hour module of training that can be conducted onsite at the Institute, or, if an employer has more than 12 employees, can be done at the workplace. The Customer Service Academy includes training in customer service; communication; team building; attitude; conflict management; time management; managing organizational change; ethics and values; decision making and problem solving.
TiPS training at the Napa Valley Hospitality Institute helps servers, bartenders and others prevent intoxication; drunk driving and underage drinking. Graduates of this program receive TiPS certification. The Napa Valley Hospitality Institute also offers the following hospitality specific training: wine tasting room sales training; food and beverage cost control; restaurant start-up; restaurant marketing strategies and supervision I and II.
A special wine country food and beverage symposium allows restaurant and winery owners and workers to stay on top of trends and network with others in the hospitality industry.
