Wabash Valley College is part of the Illinois Eastern Community Colleges system. Accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, WVC offers both transfer programs and technical programs.

More than 15 academic programs leading to a technical degree are offered on the Wabash Valley College campus, along with more than 20 certificate programs and 20 programs that prepare students to transfer to a four-year college. Students who complete the transfer degree program will meet the general education requirements at 10 nearby universities. In addition, students can pursue a bachelor's degree in more than 15 majors through an educational alliance with Franklin University; after completing an associate degree at Wabash Valley College, students complete the bachelor's degree through courses at WVC and online courses through Franklin University.

Wabash Valley College competes for the NJCAA in basketball, baseball, and softball. In addition, students interested in a broadcasting career can participate in the WVJC radio station on campus.
