Founded in 1870 by Henry and Pauline Durant, Wellesley College is a leading liberal arts college for women. Wellesley makes sure its students get a quality education offering over 56 interdepartmental and department majors plus individual majors. The average class at Wellesley consists of 17 to 20 students so that each student received individualized attention from faculty members.

Wellesley College provides offers students the best in technology and other programs. Wellesley was among the first liberal arts colleges to create a separate computer science department and Wellesley's Knapp Media and Technology includes state-of-the-art technology. A computerized library system gives students access to over 1.5 million items. The Wellesley Centers for Women, (made up of the Center for Research on Women and the Stone Center for Developmental Services and Studies) conducts important research on women's issues.

Outside of academic programs, Wellesley strives to excel in athletics, media and other student activities. The college's athletic department consists of 12 varsity teams. There are also over 160 student organizations and clubs. that students can choose to participate in.
