West Texas A&M University, established in 1910, is located in scenic Canyon, Texas offering more than 60 undergraduate and 40 graduate degree programs. The University provides a versatile academic program to traditional as well as untraditional students. The Universities Distance Education Program offers individual classes and several degree programs that can be completed totally online.

The campus is situated on about 176 acres of scenic land with over 40 buildings including the First United Bank Center, the Horse Center, the Nance Ranch and more. The University is burgeoning with extracurricular activities and organizations for students to become involved with like the pre-vet club, the rodeo club, the student dance council and the many varsity sports teams. Students can also visit the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum, the largest history museum in Texas featuring Southwest American Indian Art and more.

West Texas A&M University is a member of the NCAA Division II Lone Star Conference and offers over 13 men's and women's athletic programs including cross country, equestrian and basketball. There are numerous state of the art athletic facilities on campus like the Kimbrough Memorial Stadium, home to the universities football and soccer teams. This stadium is the second largest stadium in the NCAA Division II and has a seating capacity of 20,000. Another is the First United Bank Center, a 75,000 square foot building featuring a state-of-the-art sound system and more.

West Texas A&M University also offers unique financial aid programs and scholarships to qualifying students. One 'guarantee' the university offers is to students in the top quarter of their high school graduating class. The other unique program is the Transfer Scholarship Guartee through which transfers students can receive scholarships funds. A number of other scholarships are available as well.
