Offering a convenient approach to higher education, Western Governors University is a non-profit online university offering undergraduate and graduate programs in an array of areas. The University is reportedly the only accredited university in the United States offering 'competency-based' online degrees. Programs are offered in areas such as education, business, information technology and more.

Western Governors University was founded by governors of 19 western states and is regionally and nationally accredited. The university has received several awards and honors specifically, in the WGU's Teacher College. The Teacher College received NCATE accreditation for its teacher education programs. Bachelor's degree programs are offered in special education (PK-12), interdisciplinary studies (K-8), mathematics, science and social science providing students with the skills and education needed to pursue a career in Education. The US Department of Education and other grant and foundations, provided a $10 million grant helping to offer programs for current and future teachers.

Some programs include a Masters of Business Administration and a BA in Business Management, Finance and more.
