Originally founded in 1899 as Western Illinois State Normal School, Western
Illinois university is a public university that provides a plethora of academic programs. Western
Illinois university consists of two campuses--the main campus is located in Macomb, Illinois and the other is located in Moline, Illinois.
Western
Illinois university offers over 71 undergraduate majors, more than 42 graduate degrees and over 13 pre-professional degrees. The University is made up of four academic colleges: Arts & Sciences,
business & Technology,
education & Human Services, and
fine arts & Communication, in addition to an Honors College and the School of Extended Studies, which includes nontraditional programs. WIU also offers a Cost Guarantee Plan guarantees a four-year fixed rate for tuition, fees, room and board that remains in place as long as students are continuously enrolled.
The FYE (First Year Experience) Program at West Illinois University is designed to make all incoming freshmen more comfortable with college life. FYE students are involved in co-curricular events such as concerts, art exhibits, and guest lectures. Western Illinois University also has a very prestigious athletics department. WIU's sports teams participate in the NCAA Division I Summit League.
