Western New Mexico University, established in 1893, offers a comprehensive range of certificate, associate, baccalaureate and graduate programs. Degree areas include expressive arts, education, humanities, natural sciences and more. Western New Mexico University's 'virtual campus' also offers several bacchelorette programs that can be completed entirely and conveniently online.

Western New Mexico university is located in Silver City with several campuses in the area including the Silver City campus, the Deming Campus, the Gallup campus and more. Students can take advantage of a wide range of extra curricular activities on and off campus. The university is located close to the scenic Gila National Forest, where students can enjoy backpacking fishing and more. The Gila National forest is comprised of more that three million acres of forest and range land. It is the sixth largest forest in the United States.

This 80-acre campus offers numerous student organizations and a wide range of athletics. Some student club examples are the Native American club, the Christian marital arts club and the Sports Medicine club. Western New Mexico University also offers both women and men's sports such as basketball cross country, volleyball and much more.

There are several state of the art facilities on campus including residence halls, Fleming Hall where the WNMU museum is located, Miller Library and the Ben Altamirano Memorial Stadium. Another recent addition is the Fox Athletic Complex. This facility includes a weight room, locker rooms, coaches offices, restrooms, ticket booth, concession stand and training facilities.

Western New Mexico University offers a comprehensive financial aid program that provides financial assistance based on both need and academic performance. About 80% of students receive financial aid. Some scholarships include, The DeGrazia Scholarship in Fine Arts, the Graduate Scholarship, the Francis McCray Art Scholarship and many others in a wide variety of areas.
