Western Oregon university located in Monmouth, Oregon is a nationally accredited public institution offering undergraduate and graduate programs of study in a variety of areas. The College of Education at the university is nationally recognized and was one of 30 institutions selected to be part of the "Carnegie Corporation's Teachers for a New Era Learning Network around best practices in teacher education" in 2005. About two-thirds of WOU students are in the College of
liberal arts and Sciences and with the remain studying at the College of Education.
Western Oregon university was founded in 1856 and is the oldest institution in the Oregon University system. The campus is located close to Salem, Oregon and is not far from the city of Portland. Students can enjoy activities both on and off campus. The campus offers numerous student organizations, clubs and athletics. Athletic offerings include men's and women's intercollegiate sports including soccer, football, cross country and more. State of the art facilities include the Physical Education Building, which held the first four NAIA Division II Women's National Championship basketball tournaments and features a capacity of 2,473.
Culture abounds on this campus and students can take full advantage of one of kind facilities including the Jensen Arctic Museum. This is the only museum on the West Coast that is devoted solely to "collecting, preserving, and teaching about Arctic culture and ecology." Also available to WOU students is the Canoon Gallery of Art and the Classical Music Library which contains tens of thousands of licensed recordings from major labels that students can listen to over the Internet, to name a few.
