Western state college, established in 1901 is a four-year private institution offering undergraduate programs in a wide array of disciplines. About 22 majors are offering including history, environmental studies, art, communication, theater and more.

Western State College is the fourth oldest public College in Colorado. In 2007, more than 400 students who graduated of which the majority obtained degrees in business administration, recreation and art.

WSC is located in the mountain town of Gunnison, Colorado offering a beautiful scenic campus burgeoning with student activates, organizations and state-of-the-art facilities. There are more than 50 clubs and organizations on campus including the award winning radio station, the nations only college based Mountain Rescue team, and student publications.

WSC boasts a nationally recognized small athletic program with teams are consistently ranked among the top in the NCAA Division II. Some varsity sports offered are football basketball, cross country and more. Western State College also offers a skiing program that competes in the NCAA Division I. Western State college also offers many club sports including men's and women's rugby, women's snowboarding and adventure racing.

There are many recreations off campus students can take advantage of such as the Crested Butte Mountain Resort and Monarch Mountain Ski Area. Other interesting sites students can visit in area are the Blue Mesa Reservoir, reportedly the largest body of water in the state and Hartman rocks where students can take advantage of the rugged landscape to enjoy mountain biking, hiking and climbing.
