Wilberforce University located in Wilberforce, Ohio is the country's first, private Historically Black College offering undergraduate degrees in the liberal arts.

Wilberforce University, founded in 1856, has a "deep commitment to provide academically excellent and relevant higher education." Wilberforce University has Methodist and Episcopalian affiliations.

Wilberforce University is comprised of two colleges, the arts and sciences division offering programs in humanities and natural sciences and the Professional studies divisions.

Some majors include computer engineering, electrical engineering, literature, mass media/communications, music and more.

The university is located in Wilberforce, Ohio, a small town, which was named after a historical man, William Wilberforce a British statesman who dedicated his life to ending the slave trade. The town itself offers students with scenic surroundings featuring mostly farmlands, a museum and more. Students willing to venture a bit further off campus can explore and experience the culture in the city of Xenia which offers concerts and outdoor activities. The university is also not far from Dayton, Columbus and Cincinnati.

The Wilberforce campus offers numerous facilities for students to take advantage of including the Wilberforce University Stokes Library which boasts a local book collection of more than 62,000 volumes, periodical indexes with 500 journal and magazine subscriptions, CD-ROM resources, pamphlets and more. They also offer about seven dormitories on campus.

Wilberforce University is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division II. Athletics offered are men's and women's sports include cross country, basketball and tennis.

More than 95 percent of the financial aid awarded at Wilberforce University is based upon need and about 6% of the freshman entering class received a scholarship. The University offers some scholarship programs including a unique opportunity for study, college credit and scholarship through the University's Science, technology, and Engineering Preeminent Undergraduate Program (STEP-UP). This program is offered to students studying in technical, engineering, and science areas who meet certain criteria.

Wilberforce University also offers The Ray Charles Scholarship, an endowment of $2 million dollars donated to the universities music department by the late musical genius, Ray Charles.
