Located on 50 lush acres of Hawaiian soil, Windward
community college provides affordable education options in a tropical environment. The school provides associate degree and technical diploma programs of study to students from across Hawaii. In addition to offering in-class programs, Windward supports a strong distance learning curricula, allowing students to earn their degree at any time from anywhere. This past fall, the school added C.S.I. Hawaii to its roster of programs. Students who enroll in this criminal justice major will begin taking law and forensic science courses at Windward then finish their bachelor's degree at
Chaminade University of Honolulu.
Windward
Community College is also home to the Center for Aerospace Exploration, one of the only aerospace study facilities located in Hawaii. Established in 1985, the Center provides both space-themed coursework for undergrad students, workforce development programs for students seeking a professional certificate, educational outreach programs for the general community, flight simulators, and a "hands-on science exploratorium." Community College's campus include The Learning Center which provides placement testing, distance learning support tools, language tapes, computer access, and study skills development workshops free to all Windward Community College students. Other student support services available on campus include free academic advising, financial aid counseling, transfer assistance, and support services specially designed for physically disabled students.
Windward Community College is home to an active student body. The school sponsors arts and cultural performances each year to supplement students' in-class education. The 2007-2008 line-up of events included a performance of The Pajama Game, a digital art exhibit at the Gallery 'Iolani, and several stargazing shows open to the general community. To get the general public involved on campus, Windward Community College provides non-credited continuing education courses for adult learners ages 55 and above, summer camps for younger learners, customized
business training programs for local companies, and free seminars on topics like driver safety and speechcraft.
