Winthrop University, founded in 1886, offers more than 80 undergraduate and 40 graduate programs in numerous areas of study. There are four colleges at the university, including the College of
business Administration College of
arts and sciences, the College of Visual and Performing Arts and the Richard W. Riley College of
education. Some undergraduate areas of study include human nutrition, environmental studies, modern languages, general communication disorders and more.
Winthrop has been nationally recognized with numerous distinctions and awards. In the 2008 edition of
U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges," Winthrop was named among the 10 Regional Public Universities in the South. Additionally, "The Princeton Review," for the second year in a row, has ranked Winthrop University as one of the nation's best value undergraduate institutions in the 2008 edition of "America's Best College Values."
Winthrop University is located in the town of Rock Hill in South Carolina. The university campus spans more that 420 acres offering numerous state-of-the-art and historic facilities and buildings. Some buildings include the Ida Jane Dacus Library, housing many special collections, historical papers and more than 579,000 volumes. Others include the Winthrop University galleries and the outdoor ampitheatre.
Students can also take advantage of more than 150 clubs and organizations offered at Winthrop including the Fencing Club, the Literary Society, the Women's Soccer Club, the Ultimate Frisbee Club and many more. Also available are NCAA Division I varsity sports for both men and women. Athletes can choose from more than 16 sports such as baseball, volleyball, softball, cross-country and many more.
In addition to the numerous on campus activities, off campus also provides cultural recreational and educational activities as well. Rock Hill offers more than 30 scenic parks, fun festivals, the Catawba Indian Reservation and more. The university is also near by the city of Charlotte
North Carolina.
