Worcester Polytechnic Institute, founded in 1865, is an 80-acre traditional New England campus, set on a secluded hilltop among 13 other colleges in New England's third largest city. Commuter rail service offers students easy access to Boston, which is just an hour away. WPI's campus consists of 33 major buildings in a residential neighborhood. Students can choose from 18 academic departments that offer more than 50 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in science, engineering, technology, management, the social sciences, and the humanities and arts.

There are more than 2,800 undergraduate and 1,000 full and part-time graduate students pursuing bachelor's, master's, MBA's and Ph.D.'s enrolled at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. WPI has more than 300 full and part-time faculty members. About 95 percent of all faculty members hold a Ph.D. The student to faculty ratio is 13 to one, and the average class size ranges between 25 to 35 students. There are four seven-week terms where students are encouraged to take three classes per term.
