The Yosemite community college District is comprised of two colleges -- Modesto Junior College and Columbia College. The Modesto Junior College is regarded as one of the best community colleges in the state Incoming students' GPA scores are always notably strong, and the rate of students who transfer to four-year universities is among the best in the nation.

Modesto Junior College boasts 12,909 degree-seeking undergrads. The Science Department features professors from the best universities in the nation, who consistently help biology and chemistry majors transfer to the best four-year programs offered in the country. Modesto Junior College's nursing program has also earned a great reputation around the state, and its forensic team has beaten four-year universities in National competitions.

Established in September 1968 as Columbia Junior College, the college dropped "Junior" in 1978. Campus buildings are planned around San Diego Reservoir from which wooded foothills join the rugged majesty of the Sierra Nevada.

Columbia College is a dynamic institution of learners and creative thinkers dedicated to high standards of student success. Columbia College offers 56 different Certificates of Achievement designed to prepare students for employment in a wide variety of disciplines. These include Automotive Technology, Business Administration, Child Development, Computer Science, Emergency Medical Services, Fire Technology, Forestry Technology, Hospitality Management, Human Services, Natural Resources, Office Technology, and Welding Technology. The college also offers associate degrees, and students can complete their general education requirements in preparation to transfer to California State University and The University of California campuses.
