education Department in 1926 in Brooklyn, NY, as a nonsectarian, coeducational, privately supported university established to provide "effective and moderately priced education" to people from "all walks of life." Today,
Long Island University has six campus locations and offers more than 370
degree programs on the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels at its campuses and around the globe.
More than 24,400 students are enrolled, and there are over 650 full-time faculty members on staff. The average class size is about 20 students for undergraduate and about 15 for graduate classes. The student to faculty ratio is 12 to one.
Long Island University's School of Continuing Studies offers programs for adults who are interested in upgrading their existing skills, preparing for new careers or learning just for fun.
